FOR THE LOVE OF DISCO HOUSE

Retrojam, now a pilgrimage for loves of Classic Disco, Funk and Disco House had humble beginnings.

Will Cutting, a Southampton student with a passion for DJing spotted a gap in the club night scene for old school, feel good tunes a few years ago, and so made it his mission to deliver ‘ultimate eargasmic pleasure’ to the good people of Hampshire.

Retrojam unlike most club events sells paper tickets as well as ones online, and at a cheaper price in keeping with their retro vibes. As I handed over my ticket on Wednesday night I was anxious to see how the club night I loved would hold out in Switch, a massive venue compared to the more intimate and enclosed, Junk in which it began its rise to celebrity.

I was not disappointed.

A gigantic disco ball spun from the main room’s packed dance floor with intense coloured lasers bouncing off every glittery thing it came across, including people. John Lennon glasses, sequins and flares, peace signs and boogieing – suddenly my glitter jelly heels didn’t seem so out of the ordinary!

It was a soulful atmosphere; everyone was there to get down and it was all about the music.

Disco-head Duo Soul 45 brought the good stuff to Switch’s recently opened underground room ‘The Bunker’; their effortless vinyl mixes kept the dance floor busy until the final tune, not a mean feat as the event ended at 4am.
