Naan Breddaz Went Off @ Victorious Festival!

Slotted in before big time DJ and producer Shy FX on Sunday night of Victorious Festival, Naan Breddaz were set to perform at the Seaside Stage. “Naan Breddaz? Never heard of em” I mused, strolling to the stage with subdued curiosity at the sight of two lads dressed in baggy harems boldly rapping their track, Don’t Play Us that planted their feet for the rest of the set. ‘If you don’t like us then don’t play us on the radio’ they prophesied, this Asian Hip Hop duo wasn’t here to fuck around.

They were Jamian Who and Rishky, two lads who weren’t afraid to spit about their Asian identity, dubbing themselves ‘Paki in the park’ and ‘caramel boy’ in Don’t Play Us. They were raw, honest and unapologetic, admitting that they weren’t particularly popular at school before skanking out to Memo; a tune about being behind the trend. They gained massive respect from the crowd that grew as their set progressed.

The boys chatted to their audience, inviting them to sit down and wave in unison for one of their final tracks Playlists with the uniting lyrics, ‘doesn’t matter if you’re black or your Asian, Caucasian course we’re the same race’; ‘stand up, man up’ drew the crowd back to their feet, dancing to the boy’s soulful message. Naan Breddaz appreciated their status as ‘up-and-coming’; admitting that money was tight and they would need the harem pants they spontaneously threw into the crowd back for their mum to wash, bless them.

The lyrics weren’t the only part that impressed as Naan Breddaz whole show was well polished with a skilled band, matching golden elephant T-shirts and not a technical glitch in sight - incredible seeing as their EP Enter The N To The B was released only a month before the gig. Signed with ૐboy Records there is no doubt that there is more to come from Naan Breddaz in the near future, and personally I can’t wait to hear it.
