Fatman Scoop
American hype man and Hip Hop promoter Fatman Scoop is famous for his rough, raw voice that features in his most popular track Be Faithful that was number 1 in the UK charts in 2003. The crowd gathered at the Uncontained Stage on Sunday of Common People, ready for a nostalgic hit of Hip Hop classics and remixes but they were in for something quite different. There was no denying that Fatman Scoop has a powerful hype voice, as sadly it was all the crowd could hear.
He began by correcting the word ‘ass’ to ‘butt’, appreciating that it was 3pm and the stage was beside the children’s play area before calling out ‘PUT YOUR MOTHERFUCKING HANDS UP!’ for an unbearably long time. When he did play music it was nearly always stopped using the scratch disc and was very quiet; we were stood at a comfortable distance in the crowd near the edge of the crush and were struggling to hear tunes coming from giant speakers. Our group soon left, teased beyond a joke to see the end of Amy MacDonald’s set which was brilliant.
For such an anticipated artist Fatman Scoop was a massive let down and it was such a shame as he was followed by incredible DJs Redlight and Goldie with My Nu Leng headlining the Uncontained Stage that night who all smashed their sets bringing the crowd the bassy fuel they deserved to dance the day away.
