Pendulum @ Switch Southampton!

Pendulum took over Switch on Saturday night to play an incredible 3 hour set of their Drum and Bass classics, Knife Party tunes and remixes that reeked with their distinct Rock style. The night began surprisingly relaxed as we were greeted by a short queue and easy access to the bar with one of Switch’s in house DJs playing an excellent warm up set before kick off with Pendulum at midnight.

And then it took off; standing at the front you could look back and see waves of heads and arms as a sea of students raved to tunes released in their early teens – Watercolour, Witchcraft and The Island blasted from Switch’s speakers accompanied by a mesmerising laser display. I had seen Pendulum’s DJ set several years ago at V Festival and remember the intensity of the mosh pits being far too brutal to tackle, but at Switch the pits were inviting; harmless bouncers attempted to deter us but they were defenceless against the jumping crowd.

Internet Friends played later in the set with the lyric ‘and now you’re going to die’ before the drop that made strangers turn to each other and grin in primal, sweaty bliss. The time flew by as 3am arrived and the crowd were not ready to go home. Hannibal took over the decks to play a set of intense Drum and Bass till 5am, knowing full well I’m sure that no one could top Pendulum that night. We walked home in early daylight replaying the basslines in our minds; it was a truly unforgettable night.
