Alan Fitzpatrick – DJ JUNK Southampton, 11th March 2017

JUNK nightclub is sandwiched between an estate agents and a Ryman’ shop on London Road and can only be described as Narnia for pilgrims of dance music. A club once renowned for being the dodgiest place in Southampton to go for a night out, and that faced closure last year for the number of incidents involving police has washed the cheap larger off their decks, and been credited “one of the best clubs in the country” by Jack Master, a popular DJ.

Saturdays are big business for Southampton clubs with other club giants such as SWITCH and Oceana jostling for competition, especially from the mass of students from Solent and Southampton University. In reaction, JUNK offers a hit DJ every Saturday night with tickets priced from five to ten pounds; Alan Fitzpatrick’s set came close to sell out as he is a globally famous DJ, playing frequently in the Ibiza club scene and is a staple of the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.

The crowd eagerly awaited Fitzpatrick to take over the decks, revelling in the impressive laser display and smoke machines. He mixed in and out of songs with ease and his style seemed distinguished in some unofficial manner as his shaved head bobbed to the rhythms. Fitzpatrick’s famous releases, Love Siren and Truant were infectious, Fitzpatrick’s signature hooks encouraged a sea of IPhone camera flashes as clubbers tried to capture the moment. For those with the energy, JUNK was open until 6am and promises to offer early morning closures in the future, and with acts as good as Alan Fitzpatrick, JUNK is unmissable for lovers of bass.
